Fixin, Côte de Nuits, since 1983

At The Origin

A Family Story Above All

It all started with a choice. That of Philippe Naddef, born in Toul, and of Anne-Marie, coming from Tarn, to settle together in Burgundy.

In 1983, the couple took over 6.2 acres of vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin, handed down by Philippe’s grandfather, Dr Denis Bizot, a Burgundy wine enthusiast. This laid the foundations of our family estate. Before starting out, Philippe trained for five years at Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé in Chambolle-Musigny. This experience instilled in him a taste for well-done work and a passion for the vine. Anne-Marie handles by his side all the administrative work while also actively participating in the vineyard tasks.

Alongside them, their son Michel discovered the winemaker’s craft and the importance of taking one’s time. He studied oenology in Beaune, then gained experience for a couple of years with other wineries of the region before joining us in 2008. In 2014, he took over the vinification of our red wines, gradually bringing his own touch to our identity.

for Côte de Nuits wines

Our Vision
Three personalities, One Philosophy

Since his father’s retirement in 2022, Michel has followed in his footsteps, upholding the same values: passion, rigour, patience.

Before that, he gently developed our practices, combining our traditional spirit with a more modern style : stricter selection criteria in the vineyard, introduction of state-of-the-art vinification equipment, gradual adoption of whole-bunch fermentation to encourage freshness and complexity in the face of climate change, delicate extractions for greater respect for the harvest, reduced use of new oak to better express our terroirs.

Therefore, our winemaking approach perfectly blends Philippe and Anne-Marie’s meticulous vision with Michel’s sensibility. Our goal remains the same: to craft authentic burgundy wines of the highest quality, while opening up to advantageous innovations.

Our vineyard

A true reflection of Northern Côte de Nuits

From Fixin, where our domain is located, our vines stretch across 12.4 acres and 14 designations of the Côte de Nuits.

Among them appear renowned names such as Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru or Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru, but also lesser-known villages like Fixin and Marsannay : this mosaic of terroirs, with its various soils and ideal exposures, reveals the expressive richness of our wine region. Its characterful Pinots Noirs captivate the senses with depth, elegance and great aging potential.

We are also fortunate to have a mostly old vineyards, particularly in Gevrey-Chambertin: two-thirds of our vines are over 40 years old, and some are more than 80 years old…

Sustainable viticulture

Sustainable viticulture

Taking care of our vines with precision

We are convinced that the quality of our grapes is the root of our wine’s quality. Our manual and sustainable work at the parcel turns out to be crucial.

Herbicides, insecticides and chemical fertilizers had already disappeared by 2008, when Michel arrived. Under his guidance, we eliminated the last synthetic treatments in 2016 to opt for an exclusive use of biocontrol products.
To support this process and optimize grape ripeness, precision is our watchword: cover cropping, regular ploughing, late trimming, debudding, high trellising to avoid sunburn, leaf removal, green harvesting… Our vineyard is divided into more than fifty parcels, for the finest possible management.

While our transition to organic farming is underway, certification is not an end in itself: only respect for the vegetal life and for people matters. Always open to new horizons, we like to experiment (vine “braiding”, trials with Chardonnay Rose inspired by fellow winemakers) without ever losing our identity.

Our savoir-faire
Precision at the service of the grape

It is at the heart of the “Grosse Maison”, a historical building in Fixin built in the Middle Ages, that our careful vinification takes place.

After our meticulous work in the vineyard, we harvest entirely by hand when our grapes reach optimal ripeness. We make sure to carry them in small 20kg crates kept in a refrigerated truck to preserve their freshness. An initial sorting is always performed at harvest followed by a second on the sorting table.

Our winemaking methods remain traditional, in the pure Burgundian style, and are perfectly adapted to each vintage and terroir: proportion of whole-bunch fermentation (between 20% and 100%), intensity of extractions, shorter or longer barrel fermentation times… Respectful of the harvest, our destemmer and our press offer us particularly high-quality juices.

Maturation in oak barrels gives our wines significant aging potential. The proportion of new oak varies depending on our designations: none for our regional cuvées, around 20% for our villages and up to 50%-100% for our Premiers Crus and Grands Crus. Three local cooperages (Rousseau, Remond, Chassin) craft for us tailor-made barrels of 228L or 500L with soft, slow toasting. Finally, no fining or filtration is performed before bottling : a final touch to preserve the aromatic shades of our wines…

Our hallmark

Our hallmark

Wines ready to stand the test of time

From our attention to the tiniest detail arises the signature of our wines…

Made for medium and long aging, our bottles are typical of the Côte de Nuits in their structure and concentration : a style in line with Philippe’s tastes, a lover of old Burgundy wines. Since the 2014 vintage, our cuvées have benefited from Michel’s fresh perspective. They can now be also enjoyed in their youth thanks to reduced extraction, while still faithfully expressing the delicacy of our terroirs…
